WATER BIRDS INSTALLATION

Water Birds was conceived and constructed for the exhibition “Lawn Nation: The Art and Science of the American Lawn” at the Peggy Notebeart Nature Museum in Chicago (May-September 2008). As part of a campaign to raise awareness about water conservation and the reuse of rain water, we transformed 200 iconic lawn ornaments into rain water collection devices and watering cans. We hope this project not only enlightened visitors about conservation, but also sparked ideas for other ways to be both creative and sustainable.

To create the flamingo watering cans, we cut the backs and beaks off standard plastic flamingos, refitted the legs with longer and sturdier threaded rod and covered the new water basins with matching mosquito netting.

This project was conceived and fabricated with designlabworkshop.
